Incredible news : Did you know that in 2018, in a small town in Peru, the population had to make a choice between… Hitler and Lenin as their new Mayor?!

Indeed, the almost unknown city named Yungar, a 3 000 inhabitants town, went through an intriguing election. The two opponents had interesting names.. Hitler Alba Sanchez, who had already been Mayor of Yungar between 2011 and 2014, had to fight against Lenin Vladimir Rodriguez Valverde. What an historical fight!

However their names aren’t bad jokes or dark humor. In Peru, it is a common situation as people often give historical names without referring to their impact on the world’s history. That’s the reason why Hitler had to remind the people during the whole campaign that he was against the nazis. Nevertheless it doesn’t erase the strangeness of his speeches for us, as an instance we can cite : “I am the good Hitler” ; “Hitler is the guarantee of a great government” ; “Our town deserves Hitler” ; “Hitler with the people”.

He also reminded his electors  that his father had no idea of who Adolf Hitler was when he decided to name his son. To him, this firstname just sounded exotic.

As Europeans, those sentences are quite disturbing to read…

Finally, we can quote the genius of Lenin’s speech, which says : “Hitler returns”. Effective way to win an election!

On October 7th 2018, Hitler Alba Sanchez became the Mayor of this little town of the Andes.
